What is Yankee Hill Brick & Tile, anyways?
It’s like, them red blocks, but sometimes they ain’t red, could be brown or other colors too, I reckon. They bake ’em in a big ol’ oven, like bread, but way hotter, I’d guess. They use clay, ya know, the dirt that gets all sticky when it rains. They shape it up and then bake it hard, real hard. That’s how they make them bricks. And tiles? Well, they’re kinda like bricks, only thinner, flatter, and sometimes they got fancy shapes. They use ‘em on roofs and floors, sometimes even on walls, if you fancy.
What kinda bricks and tiles do they have?
Now, Yankee Hill, they got all sorts, I hear. They got your regular ol’ face bricks, the ones you see on the outside of houses. They got them thin bricks too, for when you don’t want it stickin’ out so much. And pavers, them’s for the ground, like walkways and such. They come in all sorts of colors, I tell ya. Reds, browns, maybe even some yellows and grays. You can pick and choose, whatever tickles your fancy, I suppose.
- Face Bricks: For the outside of your house, ya know, to make it look purdy.
- Thin Bricks: Like the regular ones, but not so thick.
- Clay Pavers: For the ground, so you don’t get your shoes all muddy.
How good are these here bricks and tiles?
Well, they say they’re strong, real strong. They gotta be, to hold up a house, right? They talk about some numbers and letters, like this “ASTM C216” thing. Don’t know what that means, but it sounds fancy, so I guess it means they’re good. They say some are smooth, some are kinda rough, like velour, whatever that is. They can handle the rain and the sun, and they last a long time, I reckon. Years and years, they say.
Where did Yankee Hill Brick & Tile come from?
I heard tell it started way back when, in a place called Yankee Hill. Some folks from up north, New England way, they settled there and started makin’ bricks. A fella named Stockwell, that’s who started it, back in 1881. That’s a long time ago, even before I was born! They been makin’ bricks ever since, I guess. Gotta be good at it by now, I’d think.
Roman Bricks, what are those?
Now, I heard tell of some fancy bricks called Roman Bricks. They’re longer than the regular ones, like a whole lot longer, and not as tall. They say they’re 4 inches by 2 inches by 12 inches, but that’s just what they say, you know how them numbers can be. They look kinda fancy, I reckon, like somethin’ you’d see in a big city building or somethin’.
How do ya get some Yankee Hill Brick & Tile?
Well, you gotta go talk to ’em, I guess. They got a place you can go, or you can call ’em up on the telephone, if you got one of them. They’ll give ya a price, and you can tell ’em what you want. They’ll probably bring it to ya on a big ol’ truck, ’cause them bricks are heavy, I tell ya.
