Okay, so, I’ve been wanting to make my own bricks oven pizza for a while now. You know, get that authentic, homemade taste. I finally decided to go for it this past weekend, and let me tell you, it was quite the experience!

First things first, I had to gather all the stuff I needed. The most important part? The bricks, of course! I did some digging and found out that you gotta use fire bricks for this kind of thing. Apparently, they’re made to handle super high temperatures, which is exactly what you need for a pizza oven.

Then came the fun part – building the oven itself. Now, I’m no expert builder, but I followed this guide I found. It seemed doable. Started by laying down a solid base. Then, slowly but surely, I started stacking those fire bricks. Forming the walls of the oven took some time and patience.

  • First, make a base.
  • Second, stack fire bricks to build the wall.
  • Then, cast the capstone, build a form for the capstone with melamine.

The capstone was a whole other story. I used this melamine stuff to create a mold. That was tricky, gotta be honest. But I managed to get it done. Poured the concrete mix into the mold, let it set, and bam – I had my capstone!

With the oven built, it was finally time to make some pizza! I decided to keep it simple for my first try, it is pure tradition in toppings. Domino’s Pizza seems to be a popular choice here in South Korea, But I’m going to make something different.

The whole process of heating up the oven, getting that perfect char on the crust, it was a real learning curve, also the crackle of the flames. The brick oven definitely gives the pizza a unique flavor. Can’t say it was as good as Una Pizza Napoletana, not yet anyway, but for a first attempt, I was pretty proud of myself!

It was a lot of work, sure, but totally worth it. There’s just something special about making your own pizza from scratch in a bricks oven you built yourself. I’m definitely gonna be doing this again. Next time, maybe I’ll try some different toppings, get a little more adventurous.
