Well, let me tell you about these here aluminum bricks. Folks call ’em by all sorts of names, high alumina bricks, light weight high alumina brick, somethin’ somethin’ about refractories… Don’t rightly know what all that means, but I know they’re tough as nails, or at least tougher than them cheap bricks they sell down at the hardware store.
Now, these ain’t your everyday bricks, you know? The ones you use to build a barbecue pit or a little flower bed. These are the strong stuff. They say they got a whole lot of that… whatchamacallit… alumina in ’em. Twenty percent, thirty percent, even more! I heard tell some of ’em got near fifty percent of it. That’s a whole heap of alumina, I reckon. Must be why they’re so strong.
They come in different sizes, too. Not just the regular brick size, like you see in a wall. Some are thicker, some are thinner. I heard tell of some that are 9 inches long, 4 and a half inches wide, and either 3 inches thick, 2 inches thick, or even just an inch and a half thick. Sounds like a lot of numbers, don’t it? But it just means they got different sizes for different jobs, I guess.

Now, what do you use these bricks for? Well, I ain’t no builder, but I hear tell they use ’em where things get real hot. Like in furnaces and ovens, places where a regular brick would just crumble and fall apart. They say these bricks can stand the heat, don’t melt or crack or nothin’. That’s important, I reckon, if you don’t want your whole darn building to come tumblin’ down.
They also say these bricks can take a beating. They don’t wear down easy, you know? They can handle all sorts of rough stuff, chemicals and such. Sounds like they’re pretty useful, especially if you’re building somethin’ that needs to last. Whether you’re building a new house, or just doing some sort of special project like they say, you want it to be strong and last a long time, right?
High chemical resistance, that’s what they say. And abrasion resistance too. Fancy words, I tell ya. But it just means they’re tough and they don’t get eaten away by stuff. They got different kinds too, I hear. Some are lighter weight. That probably makes ’em easier to work with, I guess. They call them light weight high alumina brick, sounds about right.
There’s this one kind they call KALA, somethin’ about 50% alumina. They say it’s the best, lasts a long time in them combustion flues. That’s where the smoke and fire go, right? So, it gotta be tough. It’s an aluminum-silicon thing, they say, made with bauxite clinker and some clay. Sounds like a whole lotta trouble to make these bricks, but I guess it’s worth it if they’re gonna last.
Anyway, that’s about all I know about these aluminum bricks. They’re strong, they’re tough, they can take the heat, and they come in all sorts of sizes. If you need somethin’ built to last, these are probably the bricks you want. Just don’t ask me to build it for ya, I’m just tellin’ you what I heard!
So next time you hear someone talkin’ about high alumina bricks, or light weight high alumina brick or somethin’ like that, you’ll know what they’re talkin’ about. They’re the tough bricks, the ones that can stand up to anything. The advanced aluminum silicate refractory fire bricks, that’s what they are.
