So, I’ve been messing around with these things called “water bricks” lately. I saw some folks online talking about them and figured, why not give ’em a shot? Seemed like a neat idea for storing water, especially since I like being prepared for, you know, just in case.
First thing I did was order a pack of ten of these water bricks online. They’re basically these plastic containers, but they’re called bricks because you can stack ’em up. Each one holds about 3.5 gallons of water, which is a decent amount.
Getting Started
When they arrived, I unpacked them and gave them a good look over. They’re made of this tough, food-grade plastic, which is good because I don’t want any weird stuff leaching into the water. Oh, and they’re BPA-free, which is a plus.
- Washed them out: Even though they’re new, I gave each brick a good wash with some soapy water, just to be safe. Then I rinsed them out real good to make sure there wasn’t any soap left.
- Filled them up: Filling these things is pretty easy. The opening is wide enough that you can just stick them under a faucet. The hard part was not making a mess on the floor, haha.
- Stacking them up: This is where the “brick” part comes in. I stacked them up in my storage closet, and they fit together real nice, just like advertised. They say you can stack ’em up to 4 feet high, but I only went up to three just because that’s all the space I had.
Dispensing the water
I also got a spigot with these things, which is pretty useful. You can screw it onto one of the bricks and dispense water without having to lift the whole thing. One time, I used it to fill up my water bottle when I was working in the garage, and it worked like a charm.
Extra Uses
Now, I haven’t just been using these for water. I had this idea to use one of them to store rice. I filled it up with about 25 pounds of rice, and it fit perfectly. They say you can also use them for other dry foods, ammo, or even as ice blocks. Pretty versatile, I gotta say.
Final Thoughts
Honestly, I’m pretty happy with these water bricks. They’re sturdy, easy to use, and they don’t take up a ton of space. I feel a little more prepared knowing I have a good amount of water stored up, plus some extra food. You never know when you might need it, right? I can lift it easily, and I store it in the cabinet.
