Want to make brick pizza oven? Here is the answer!

Okay, so I’ve always wanted to try my hand at making one of those cool brick pizza ovens you see people using. You know, the ones that make those amazing, crispy pizzas? Well, I finally did it! It was a bit of a project, but I took a bunch of pictures and notes along the way.

First, I gathered all the stuff I needed. I got a whole pile of firebricks. They are good for the heat. I also got some insulation stuff. I learned it’s important for keeping the heat in. And of course, I got mortar, specifically refractory mortar. This is the special kind of mortar that can handle high temperatures. Oh, and I got some steel parts for the oven door, but you could skip that if you want to keep it simple. Last but not least, I got concrete for the base. You gotta have a solid base.

Next, I started building the base. I poured the concrete and made sure it was nice and level. This took some time to dry, but it was worth it to have a strong foundation for the oven.

Once the base was ready, I began laying the firebricks for the floor of the oven. I used the refractory mortar to stick them together, kind of like building with LEGOs but way heavier and hotter. This part was actually pretty fun, seeing the oven take shape. Then I started on the dome. Now, this was the tricky part. Building a dome out of bricks is no joke! I had to cut some of the bricks at angles to make them fit just right, which was a bit of a pain. But, slowly but surely, I got the dome built.

After the dome was done, I added the insulation. I used this ceramic fiber blanket stuff, wrapping it around the dome like a big, warm blanket for the oven. This is important to keep the heat inside and make the oven efficient.

  • Lay the firebricks for the oven floor.
  • Build the dome, cutting bricks as needed.
  • Add insulation around the dome.

Finally, I installed the steel door. This was the finishing touch, and it made the oven look really professional. I fired up the oven for the first time and let it cure. I was so excited to finally cook something in it!

My first pizza in the new oven was… well, it wasn’t perfect. It took some experimenting to get the hang of the temperature and cooking time. But I kept trying. And you know what? Eventually, I nailed it! Now I can make pizzas that are just as good as the ones from a fancy pizzeria. They have that perfect, slightly charred crust and smoky flavor.

Achievement

Building a brick pizza oven is definitely a project, but it’s so worth it. If you’re thinking about doing it, I say go for it! Just be prepared to get your hands dirty and maybe mess up a few pizzas along the way. Trust me, the end result is delicious!
