How to Make a Fire Pit with Bricks: The Ultimate DIY Backyard Guide!

Hey everyone, I wanted to share my little weekend project with you all. I finally got around to building that fire pit I’ve been dreaming about, and let me tell you, it turned out pretty awesome. It was a bit of work, but totally worth it. So, I thought I’d walk you through how I did it, step by step.

Gathering My Stuff

First things first, I needed to gather all my materials. I decided to go with an above-ground design because I didn’t want to dig up my whole yard. For the fire pit itself, I picked up around 96 Belgian wedge wall bricks. Now, the number of bricks you need might be different depending on how big you want your fire pit to be. I just eyeballed it and figured this would be enough for a decent-sized circle.

Laying Down the Base

The first real step was getting the area prepped. And I made sure the area I picked was good. I cleared out a spot in my backyard and made sure it was nice and level. Since I went with an above-ground, circular design, I didn’t have to dig a hole, thank goodness. It saved me a lot of time and effort. I’m sure some people like the square one, but this is not my thing.

Building the Walls

Then came the fun part – actually building the fire pit. I started laying the bricks in a circle, one layer at a time. It was kind of like putting together a giant puzzle. I made sure to stagger the joints between each layer to give the structure some extra strength.

I took my time with this part, making sure each brick was nice and snug against the next one. It’s important to keep the walls as level as possible as you go up. I used a level tool every few bricks just to double-check. It was a bit tedious, but I wanted to make sure it was done right. As I built up the layers, the fire pit really started to take shape. I ended up with a circular wall that was about four bricks high, which seemed like the perfect height to me.

Adding the Finishing Touches

Once the main structure was built, I decided to add a few finishing touches. I also spread a layer of gravel around the base of the fire pit for an extra touch of style and to help with drainage.

Enjoying the Fruits of My Labor

And that’s it! The fire pit was done. It took a good chunk of my weekend, but seeing it all come together was so satisfying. That first night, we invited some friends over, roasted marshmallows, and just enjoyed the cozy atmosphere. It was the perfect way to break in the new fire pit.

So, if you’re thinking about building your own fire pit, I say go for it! It’s a fun project, and you’ll end up with a great spot to hang out with family and friends. Just remember to plan it out, gather your materials, take your time building it, and most importantly, enjoy the process!
