Okay, so, I’ve always wanted a fire pit in my backyard. You know, somewhere to chill with friends, roast some marshmallows, and just enjoy the outdoors. I finally decided to make it happen, and let me tell you, it wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be.
Finding the right spot
First things first, I had to find the perfect spot in my backyard. I wanted it far enough from the house and any trees, just to be safe. Once I picked a good location, I started marking it out. I just used some spray paint to draw a big circle on the ground – that’s where the fire pit was going to go.
Digging
Next up, the not-so-fun part: digging. I grabbed my shovel and started digging out the circle I had marked. It didn’t have to be super deep, just enough to clear out the grass and some of the dirt. I wanted the fire pit to be a little bit below ground level.
Laying the bricks
Now for the bricks. I got a bunch of regular old bricks from the hardware store. Nothing fancy. I started laying them around the edge of the hole I dug, stacking them up to make the walls of the fire pit. It was kind of like building with LEGOs, but way heavier.
- Layer 1, I did it around the perimeter.
- Layer 2, I did it again with more bricks.
- Layer 3, I just keep doing it until I felt satisfied.
Making it look nice
Once the walls were high enough, I added some smaller rocks and gravel to the bottom of the pit. This helped with drainage and made it look a little nicer. I also put some larger rocks around the outside of the fire pit, just to make it blend in with the yard a bit more. That was easy!
Time to chill
And that’s it! I built a fire pit. I grabbed some firewood, invited some friends over, and we had a great time sitting around the fire, chatting, and roasting marshmallows. It was the perfect way to spend a summer evening. If I can do it, anyone can. Seriously, give it a try!
