Got a weekend project on my hands, you know, something to get dirty with and feel like I actually did something. Decided to build a brick circular fire pit. Yeah, sounds fancy, but it’s just a bunch of bricks in a circle, really. Anyway, I’ve been itching to have a fire pit in my backyard for ages. Always loved the idea of sitting around a fire, maybe roasting some marshmallows, having a few beers, good times, right?
First things first, I gathered all the stuff I needed. Had to make a run to the local hardware store – these guys know me by name now. I picked up about 80 or so face bricks. I mean, you can use any type of bricks, but these looked decent and were not going to break the bank. Oh, and I also grabbed some gravel while I was there. Figured it would be good for the base, you know, for drainage and all that jazz. Also, bought 96 Belgian wedge wall bricks.
Back home, I started by marking out where this thing was going to go. Just used a can of spray paint to draw a circle on the ground. Eyeballed it, mostly. I dug a hole where the fire pit will be placed.
Next up, I laid down the gravel in the circle, just a thin layer to start with. Then, I began stacking the bricks. It was a bit like doing a puzzle, except the pieces are heavy and don’t quite fit perfectly. I kept stacking, going around and around, making sure the bricks were level. It took a while, and my back was definitely feeling it, but hey, no pain, no gain, right?

Finally, I stepped back and admired my handiwork. There it was, my very own brick fire pit. Sure, it’s not perfect, a bit rough around the edges, but I built it with my own two hands. Can’t wait to light the first fire in there. It’s going to be epic, sitting around with friends, maybe playing some music, enjoying the warmth on a cool evening. This is what it’s all about, making memories and enjoying the simple things in life.
