homemade brick barbecue grill: Easy Weekend Project and Transform Your Outdoor Space and Elevate Your Grilling Game

This old lady gonna tell you how to make a brick barbecue grill. You can make it at home, just need some bricks and stuff. It ain’t that hard, I done it many times. If you got a backyard, you can build one. Cookin’ on it taste so good, much better than them fancy grills.

Get the Bricks Ready

First, you gotta get some bricks. Don’t need to buy new ones, old ones work just fine. If you know someone tearin’ down an old house, ask ’em for the bricks. Save you some money. Clean them bricks good, get all the old dirt off. Scrub ’em with water, let ’em dry in the sun. Homemade brick barbecue grill needs good, clean bricks.

  • Find some old bricks
  • Clean them bricks good
  • Let them dry in the sun

Find a Good Spot

Next, you gotta find a good spot in your yard. Don’t put it too close to the house, don’t want no fire hazard. And don’t put it under a big tree, them leaves can catch fire. Find a flat spot, where the ground is even. You don’t want your brick barbecue grill to be wonky. If the ground ain’t flat, you gotta make it flat. Dig a little, add some dirt, stomp it down good.

Before you start, think about how big you want it. Big enough for a whole chicken? Or just some sausages? I like mine big, so I can cook a lot at once. Good for when the whole family comes over. If you want a big one, you need more bricks, remember that. Also you can have a big firepit if you want.

Start Laying Bricks

Now, you start layin’ the bricks. You need some mortar, that’s like glue for bricks. Mix it up with water, make it thick like peanut butter. Put some mortar on the ground, then put a brick on it. Tap it down good with a hammer. Keep doin’ that, layin’ bricks in a row. Make a square, that’s the base of your homemade brick barbecue grill.

If you wanna be like the other people and make some fancy food, you can get a grill pan. Those pan things can make your stove a grill, and make some line on your food like the real grill. Also those pans can make the oil go away from your food. I don’t like oily food.

  • Mix mortar with water
  • Lay bricks in a square
  • Tap them down good

Build it Up

Keep layin’ bricks, buildin’ up the walls. Make it as high as you want, but not too high. You gotta be able to reach the food. Leave a hole in the front, that’s where you put the wood or charcoal. You can put a metal grate on top, that’s where you put the food. Or you can just cook on the bricks, like I do.

And about the money. I know some people think about that. If you do it yourself, it won’t cost too much. Just the bricks, the mortar, maybe some metal grate if you want. Maybe cost you $500. If you want to build a big firepit too, you will need more money and more bricks.

Let it Dry

When you’re done layin’ bricks, you gotta let it dry. Don’t use it right away, the mortar needs to harden. Wait a few days, let the sun bake it good. Then you can start a fire in it, cook some food. Homemade brick barbecue grill takes time, but it’s worth it.

Start Cooking

Now comes the fun part, cookin’ on your brick barbecue grill. Get some wood or charcoal, start a fire in the hole. Let it burn down to hot coals, that’s when you start cookin’. Put your meat on the grate, or right on the bricks. Turn it over sometimes, so it cooks even.

You can cook anything on a homemade brick barbecue grill. Chicken, ribs, sausages, even vegetables. Tastes so good, cooked over a real fire. You can’t get that flavor from them gas grills. And it’s fun, standin’ around the fire, watchin’ the food cook. Like a little party every time.

Keep it Clean

After you’re done cookin’, you gotta clean up. Let the coals cool down, then scoop ’em out. Scrub the grate, or the bricks, get all the food bits off. You don’t want no bugs or critters comin’ around. Keep your brick barbecue grill clean, it’ll last longer. This is the fourth one I built.

  • Let coals cool down
  • Scoop out coals
  • Scrub grate or bricks

And that’s how you make a homemade brick barbecue grill. It ain’t hard, just takes some time and work. But it’s worth it, you get a great grill, and you made it yourself. Feels good to cook on something you built. And the food, oh the food, tastes so much better. So, go on, get some bricks, and start buildin’. You’ll be glad you did.
