Well, let me tell you, I seen a thing or two in my time. But one thing that always gets folks gathered ’round is a good ol’ brick grill. That’s right, not one of them fancy metal contraptions. I’m talkin’ ’bout a grill made of good, solid brick. Now, I ain’t no fancy builder, but I’ve helped put together a few in my day, and let me tell you, they’re somethin’ special.
First thing you gotta know about building brick grill is you need bricks. Any old brick will do for the outside, I reckon. But for the inside, where the fire’s gonna be, you want them firebricks. They’re tougher, you see. Can stand the heat without crackin’ up like some folks I know. And they hold that heat in real good, like a warm hug on a cold day.
Now, how many bricks you need? Well, that depends on how big you want your grill. If you got yourself a regular-sized grill, ’bout 700mm by 400mm, you’ll need maybe 100, 120 bricks. Somethin’ like that. And you want to build it up, ’bout 10 or 12 layers high. That’s what most folks do. Just make sure you have enough brick grill building materials.
- Bricks – lots of ’em
- That mortar stuff – to hold ’em together
- A grill grate – gotta have somethin’ to put the food on
- Maybe some metal bits – if you want to get fancy
And don’t forget that mortar! You gotta put that between the bricks to hold ’em together. ‘Bout 10mm thick, that’s what they say. It’s like the glue that keeps the whole thing from fallin’ apart. Ain’t nobody want a pile of bricks instead of a grill, now do they?
Now, ‘fore you start slappin’ bricks together, you gotta think ’bout where you’re gonna put this thing. Don’t go puttin’ it right up against your house if you got that plastic siding. That stuff melts, you know. Bricks are better. If you get a little grease fire, the bricks might get a little black, but you can just hose ’em down. Good as new.
And how much is all this gonna cost? Well, that depends. You can do it cheap, just get some bricks and mortar. Maybe spend $500 or so. Or you can get all fancy, add all sorts of doohickeys. Then it’ll cost ya more. It’s up to you how much you wanna spend on your brick grill.
But let me tell you, there ain’t nothin’ like cookin’ on a brick grill you built yourself. It just tastes better, you know? It’s like you put a little bit of yourself into every burger, every hot dog. And it’s a great way to get folks together. Everyone loves a good barbecue. Even people who are new to the brick grill, they all love to watch it.
It is just more fun, you know? And if you do it yourself, that is just better. It makes you feel good. Nothing like them city folks with them fancy grills. They don’t know what they are missin’.
It ain’t hard to do, neither. Just gotta take your time, do it right. It will last you a long time. Even the city folk will be jealous. You will be the best one to cook outside in your town. If you build a brick grill, you will be the brick grill master.
And if you have friends who are always bragging about their barbecue skills, invite them over. Once they see how your meat is done, they won’t be able to say a thing, because you will be the brick grill master.
This is a great project, you know? If you have kids, they will love to help. It is a good idea to teach them to do something with their hands. Better than to stare at the screen. Let them help you to build the brick grill, and they will be happy to have helped.
So, if you’re thinkin’ ’bout gettin’ a grill, think about a brick one. It ain’t as hard as you might think. And it’s somethin’ you can be proud of. Somethin’ that’ll last a long, long time. Just like the memories you’ll make cookin’ on it with your family and friends. Yeah, a brick grill is the way to go. Ain’t nothin’ better, I tell ya.
