Alright, listen up, y’all. We gotta talk ’bout keepin’ them brick houses standin’ tall. Ain’t nobody want a crumbly, crackly house, now do they? It’s like lookin’ after a good pair of boots, gotta keep ’em clean and patched up, or they won’t last ya.
First thing’s first, ya gotta look at your bricks real good, and do it often. Like, every year, walk around the whole darn house. See any cracks? Anythin’ lookin’ wonky? That mortar, the stuff between the bricks, is it crumbly like old cheese? Gotta catch that stuff early, ya hear? A little crack can turn into a big ol’ mess if ya let it.
Now, water, that’s a sneaky devil. It can get in them bricks and cause all sorts of trouble. See any spots where water sits? Any places where the bricks look wet all the time? Gotta fix that, or the water’ll freeze and bust them bricks right open. Happened to my neighbor’s porch, it did. Looked like a doggone bomb went off.
- So, what do ya do if ya find somethin’ wrong? Well, if it’s just a little crack, ya can probably fill it in yourself. Get some of that mortar stuff, mix it up like the instructions say, and slap it in there. Nothin’ to it. Just make sure it’s good and packed in there tight.
- But if it’s a big crack, or if the bricks are movin’ around, ya might need to call in a pro. Don’t be cheap, now. A good brick fixer is worth their weight in gold. They’ll get it fixed up right, so ya don’t gotta worry ’bout it no more.
And speakin’ of fixin’ things, keep them bricks clean! Dirt and grime ain’t just ugly, they can hold water and make the bricks go bad faster. Hose it down good, or maybe scrub it with a brush if it’s real dirty. Just be careful not to use nothin’ too harsh, ya don’t wanna mess up the bricks.
Now, I know what some of ya are thinkin’. “This sounds like a lot of work.” Well, yeah, it is. But it’s worth it, ain’t it? A good brick house will last ya a lifetime, if ya take care of it. It’s like plantin’ a garden, ya gotta tend to it if ya want it to grow. Just like takin’ care of your own kids or grand kids you got ta look after em and keep em in line.
Think of it like this, your house is your shelter, and your investment. If ya let it fall apart, where ya gonna live? And how ya gonna sell it if ya ever need to? Nobody wants a house that’s fallin’ apart at the seams. You take care of your house and it’ll take care of you.
So, get out there and take a look at your bricks. Don’t wait till somethin’ bad happens. Be proactive, like them fancy folks say. A little bit of work now can save ya a whole lotta headaches later on. And if ya don’t know what to do, ask somebody. There’s always somebody around who knows a thing or two about fixin’ stuff.
And one more thing, don’t go plantin’ vines and stuff all over your brick house. Looks pretty, I guess, but them roots can get in the cracks and make ’em bigger. And then ya got a real mess on your hands. Just leave them bricks be, let ’em breathe. Just clean them up and fix em up if they get a little broke is all.
So that’s about it. Keep your eyes peeled, keep them bricks clean, and fix anythin’ that looks broke. Do that, and your brick house will stand tall for years to come, ya hear?
Now go on get and look at your house I bet you haven’t looked at it real close in a long time.
