Okay, so today I’m gonna build a brick barbecue. I have always wanted one in my backyard. Now it’s time to get this done.
First, I went to the local store and bought some bricks. I didn’t buy too many, just enough for a small grill. I don’t need a huge one, just something to cook some burgers and hot dogs on. I also grabbed some mortar mix while I was there. Also, I got a gas barbecue insert.
Back home, I cleared a spot in my backyard. It wasn’t too hard to find a good place. I made sure it was away from anything that could catch fire. Safety first, you know? Then I got my tools together. Nothing fancy, just a trowel, a level, and a bucket for mixing the mortar.
I started by laying out the first row of bricks. No mortar yet, just placing them to see how they fit. I used the level to make sure they were straight. This took some time, but I wanted it to look good. After I was happy with the layout, I mixed the mortar. It was a bit messy, but kind of fun. Like making mud pies as a kid.
Then came the real work. I started laying the bricks with mortar. I put a layer of mortar on the ground, then placed the first brick. I tapped it with the trowel to make sure it was secure. Then I added more mortar and the next brick. I kept going like this, row by row. I used the level often to check my work. I messed up a few times and had to redo some bricks. But hey, that’s how you learn, right?
After a few rows, I was getting the hang of it. It was slow, but steady work. My back started to hurt a bit, so I took some breaks. I’d sit down, have some water, and admire my progress. It was starting to look like a real barbecue!
I placed the gas barbecue insert in the suitable position, then continued to lay bricks around it.
Finally, I finished laying all the bricks. I stepped back and looked at my work. It wasn’t perfect, but I was proud of it. I built it with my own hands. And you know what? It looked pretty darn good.
I let the mortar dry for a day. Then, I fired it up and cooked some burgers. They tasted amazing. Maybe it was the satisfaction of cooking on something I built myself. I don’t know, but it was a great feeling.
So, that’s my brick barbecue story. It was a fun project, and I learned a lot. If I can do it, anyone can. Just be patient, take your time, and enjoy the process.
