Okay, so the other day I was thinking, “Man, it would be awesome to have a barbecue pit in my backyard.” Not one of those fancy metal ones, but a real, down-to-earth brick one. I saw some pictures online, and it looked pretty doable. Plus, I heard that brick barbecues are not that hard to build and it is fun to cook on. So, I decided, “Why not give it a shot?”
First things first, I had to figure out what I needed. Obviously, bricks were the main thing. I also grabbed some concrete and wood to make some forms. I didn’t want to spend a fortune, so I looked up some budget-friendly options. Apparently, you can get grill pans for like 40 to 75 bucks, depending on the size and quality. I figured the whole project would cost me somewhere between 110 and 300 dollars. Not bad, right?
Now, I’m not exactly a construction expert, but I’ve done some DIY stuff around the house. I started by digging a shallow pit where I wanted the barbecue to be. Then, I built some wooden frames to help me shape the foundation. Poured in the concrete, let it set – you know, the usual stuff. The waiting was the hardest part, had to make sure that concrete was solid.
Once the foundation was ready, I started laying the bricks. I decided to go with a simple stacked design. No cement or mortar needed, just stacking fireproof bricks like I’m building a little fort. I made sure they fit together nice and snug. It wasn’t going to be as sturdy as those fancy brick-and-mortar ones, but it would get the job done.

Layer by layer, the barbecue started to take shape. I added the grill pans on top, and voila! My very own brick barbecue pit. It’s not perfect, a bit rough around the edges, but it’s mine. And you know what? It works like a charm!
I’ve already grilled a few times on it, and let me tell you, the food tastes amazing. There’s just something special about cooking on a barbecue you built yourself.
