Alright, so, I’ve always wanted a fire pit in my backyard, and I finally decided to tackle the project last weekend. I chose to go with red fire pit bricks because, well, they just look awesome, and I thought they’d add a nice pop of color to my outdoor space.
First things first, I picked a spot in my yard. I made sure it was far enough away from the house, trees, and anything else that could catch fire. Safety first, people!
Then, I marked out the area for the fire pit. I wanted a circular one, so I used a stake and some string to draw a perfect circle on the ground. After that, I got to digging. I made a hole about 6 inches deep, which was a bit of a workout, to be honest.
Once the hole was dug, I added some gravel for drainage. I poured in a couple of inches of gravel and leveled it out. Then, I added a layer of sand on top of the gravel, about an inch or so. This was to create a stable base for the fire pit.
- Gathering materials was the next step. I bought a steel fire pit ring from my local hardware store and a bunch of those red fire pit bricks. Now, I didn’t really know how many bricks I’d need, so I just guessed and ended up buying around 80. Better safe than sorry, right?
- Next, I placed the steel ring in the center of the hole on top of the sand. Then came the fun part – laying the bricks. I started placing the bricks around the steel ring, making sure they were nice and snug against each other.
- I built up the walls of the fire pit, row by row, until it was about 15 inches high. It took a while, and I definitely broke a sweat, but it was starting to look like a real fire pit!
After all the bricks were in place, I filled in any gaps with some extra sand. And that was it! My very own red fire pit, built with my own two hands.
I’m pretty stoked with how it turned out. It’s a great addition to my backyard, and I can’t wait to have some friends over for a bonfire. Building a fire pit with red bricks was definitely a rewarding project, and I’d recommend it to anyone looking to add a cozy touch to their outdoor space. Just be prepared for a bit of hard work, but trust me, it’s totally worth it!
A few tips if you’re thinking of doing this yourself:
- Make sure you check your local fire codes before you start.
- Wear gloves when you’re handling the bricks.
- Take your time and don’t rush.
- Enjoy the process!
I hope my experience helps anyone who wants to build their own fire pit. It’s a fun project, and you’ll be proud of the result!
