Well, honey, lemme tell ya somethin’ about makin’ one of them brick pizza ovens. It ain’t as hard as them city folk make it out to be. You just need some good ol’ bricks, some dirt, and a little bit of know-how. I’ve seen a few in my day, and I reckon I can tell ya how to DIY brick pizza oven your ownself.
Gettin’ Your Stuff Together
First thing you gotta do is get your stuff together. You gonna need a bunch of bricks. Any old kind will do, long as they ain’t cracked or nothin’. Then you need some dirt, I mean mortar, to stick ’em together. You can buy that at the store, or you can just mix up some mud and sand. Works just as good, I reckon. And you’ll need something for the floor of your pizza oven, some folks use more bricks, some use a big flat rock. Just make sure it is flat and can get hot!
- Bricks, lots of ’em
- Dirt, or that fancy mortar stuff
- Somethin’ flat for the floor, like a big rock or more bricks
- A shovel, for diggin’ and mixin’
- Water, gotta have water to make the mud
Puttin’ it All Together
Now, you gotta find a good spot for your oven. Somewhere flat, and not too close to the house, you know, in case of fire. Then you just start stackin’ them bricks. Make a circle, kinda like a well, but not too deep. That’s gonna be the bottom of your oven.
You just keep stackin’ them bricks, makin’ the walls go up. Slap some of that mortar in between them bricks to hold ’em together. It is important to build a pizza oven that is gonna hold. Don’t be stingy with the mud. And make sure you leave a hole in the front, for puttin’ in the pizza and the wood, you know.
Makin’ the Dome
This here’s the tricky part. You gotta make the top of your oven, like a dome. Some folks use a big ball or somethin’ to shape it, but I just eyeball it. You start stackin’ the bricks, makin’ each row a little smaller than the one below it. Keep slappin’ on that mortar. It takes some time, but you’ll get there.
Make sure to make that dome shape, you know, DIY brick pizza oven gotta have that dome! It helps cook the pizza real good, makes it crispy and yummy, not soggy like in them regular ovens.
Let it Dry and Fire it Up!
Once you got the whole thing built, you gotta let it dry. Might take a few days, maybe a week, dependin’ on the weather. Just let that mud harden up real good. Then, you can build a little fire inside, to cure it, you know, make it strong. Keep that fire goin’ for a few hours, then let it cool down.
After that dry, your pizza oven is good to go! You can build a big fire in that DIY brick pizza oven and get it all hot, hot, hot! The hotter the better they say for good pizza. When it is hot, you can start making pizza. Oh, it will be good!
Pizza Time!
Now comes the best part, makin’ the pizza! You can make your own dough, or you can buy it from the store. I ain’t judgin’. Roll it out, put on your sauce and your cheese and whatever else you like on your pizza. Then, you just slide that pizza right into your brick oven. Make sure you got something to slide it in with, like a big ol’ wooden paddle or something.
That there pizza oven gets so hot, your pizza will cook real fast. Just a few minutes, maybe less. Keep an eye on it, you don’t want it to burn. When it’s all bubbly and golden brown, it’s done. It will be crispier than them other pizzas. That’s cause that brick oven gets so hot and cooks it just right, makes it the best overall pizza.
Enjoy Your Hard Work
And that’s all there is to it! You built your own DIY brick pizza oven. Now you can have pizza parties all the time, and everyone will be so impressed with your fancy oven. Just remember to be careful with that fire, and don’t burn yourself. And don’t forget to share some of that pizza with your old friends! If you want one of them fancy, wood-fired pizza oven, this is a good way to do it! And don’t you listen to them folks that say it’s too hard. If I can do it, anyone can. Just takes a little bit of work and a whole lot of love. You will see, it is a rewarding project! Now go on and get to buildin’!
