My old man, he always said, a fire pit, that’s the heart of a yard. And he built ours outta bricks. Yep, a brick outdoor fire pit, just like the name says. We had so many good times around that thing.
Keepin’ That Pit Clean
Now, you gotta keep that fire pit clean, you hear? That’s important. If you don’t, it’s gonna get all nasty and you don’t want no nasty fire pit. First thing, when that fire’s all gone and the pit’s cooled down, you gotta get in there and scoop out all them ashes.
Get yourself a good, strong brush. Not one of them flimsy things. And you scrub, scrub, scrub. Inside and outside, make sure you get all that gunk off. Then, you take your water hose and spray that whole thing down. Make sure it’s all clean, you see?
Then you gotta let it dry. I mean, really dry. Don’t be using it when it’s still wet, that ain’t no good. Just let it sit there in the sun for a couple days, at least. I tell you. Two or three days is good. Then it’s all nice and dry and ready for another fire.
Movin’ That Big Ol’ Thing
Now, sometimes you gotta move that fire pit. Maybe you’re redoin’ the yard, or maybe you just want it in a different spot. Well, let me tell ya, it ain’t easy. But here’s what you do. You gotta make sure that fire’s all the way out, and that pit is cooled down. And I mean, cold. Don’t be tryin’ to move no hot fire pit, you’ll burn yourself good.
Then, you gotta clean it out again. All them ashes, get ’em outta there. And you scrub it good, just like I told ya before. Use some soap and water this time, if you want. Make sure you get all that dirt and grime off. We want a clean fire pit to move.
Then you gotta dry it all off. And make sure it’s completely dry, too. If you try to move a wet fire pit, it will be even heavier. Once it’s all dry, you gotta get yourself a cover. A good, strong one, that the rain can’t get through. You don’t want your fire pit gettin’ all rusty, do ya? And then you put it somewhere dry. Like in your shed, or maybe your garage. Somewhere it’s not gonna get all wet and ruined. Keep the brick outdoor fire pit safe and good.
Make it Last Long
See, a fire pit, it ain’t just somethin’ pretty to look at. It’s for keepin’ warm, and cookin’ hot dogs, and tellin’ stories. You gotta take care of it. You want that fire pit to last a long time, don’t ya? You don’t want to have to build a new one every year.
What You Need to Do
- Clean it good: After every fire, scoop out them ashes.
- Scrub it down: Use a strong brush and some water, get all that dirt off.
- Let it dry: Don’t use it when it’s wet, let it dry real good in the sun. It need to be very dry for a brick outdoor fire pit.
- Move it careful: Make sure it’s cooled down and cleaned out before you move it.
- Cover it up: Keep it dry and covered when you’re not using it.
You do all that, and your fire pit will last you a good long time. You’ll have lots of good times around that fire, just like we did. And your grandkids, they’ll be sittin’ around that same fire pit, tellin’ their own stories. Yep, a good brick outdoor fire pit, that’s somethin’ special. You take care of it, and it’ll take care of you.
Now, when you first build that thing, you can put some sand in the bottom. That helps, I don’t rightly know why, but it does. My old man always said so, and he knew about these things. Just a layer of sand, right there on the bottom. That’s the key for brick outdoor fire pit. That will help make it a good fire pit.
Keepin’ it Safe
One more thing. You gotta be safe with your fire pit. Don’t be puttin’ it too close to your house, or any trees, or anythin’ that can catch fire. And don’t be leavin’ it unattended. You gotta watch that fire, make sure it don’t get out of control. Safety is the most important thing with a brick outdoor fire pit. Always wear some eye protection, too. And maybe one of them dust masks, if the ash is really flyin’ around. You don’t want to be breathin’ all that in.
Fire’s a good thing, but it can be dangerous, too. You gotta respect it. You do that, and you’ll be just fine. You’ll have many a good night, sittin’ around that fire pit, watchin’ the flames dance, and the stars in the sky. Just remember what I told ya. A clean fire pit is a good fire pit. It will last you a long long time.
