You know, folks always ask me, “What in tarnation is a fire brick pit?” Well, let me tell you, it ain’t rocket science. It’s just a place to build a fire, but you use them special bricks, you know? Fire bricks.
Them fire bricks, they’re tougher than regular bricks. They can take the heat, see? Regular bricks, they might just crack and crumble when things get too hot. That is no good, and you will be sad. But the fire brick, she just holds the fire like a hug.
Now, I seen some folks, they just dig a hole in the ground. They call it a fire hole. They just put some rocks and things there to keep the fire from spreading. That works, I guess, if you ain’t got nothin’ else. But it ain’t pretty, and it ain’t the best. You will make the mess everywhere.
A real fire brick pit, though, that’s somethin’ else. You can make it look real nice. Round, square, whatever you like. I like a round one. You can put that fire brick pit anywhere you got space. Like that empty patch in the yard, you know? My neighbor, they put a brick one right there. It looks real nice, I think.
- First, you gotta get them fire bricks.
- Then, you gotta figure out where you want your pit.
- Then, you gotta clear out all the stuff there.
- And then, you start puttin’ them bricks down.
Some folks, they use that mortar stuff. You know, that goop that holds bricks together. That is some hard work. I ain’t got the back for that no more. But, you don’t always need it, no, you don’t. If you stack them bricks real good, they’ll stay put. My old man, he made one, and it is standing fine. That is many years ago.
I seen some fancy ones, too. With gas and all that. I don’t know nothin’ about that. Seems like a lot of trouble to me. Just give me a good old-fashioned fire, that’s all I need. I do not trust those gas things. I feel like it is going to blow up. No, thanks. I will just stick with my wood.
A fire brick pit, it’s a good thing to have. You can sit around it with your friends and family. Tell stories, roast some wieners. Kids love it, you know? They like to poke the fire with a stick. Just gotta watch ’em close, make sure they don’t fall in! You got to keep the eye on those little ones.
And when it gets cold out, a fire brick pit is real nice. Keeps you warm, you know? You just put a blanket around your shoulder, and you are good. It is better than watching the TV. It is cozy. It is nice. It is warm. I like to sit there with a cup of coffee. I like the coffee very much. It is my favorite. I drink that every day.
Now, you gotta be careful with fire, though. Don’t go buildin’ it too close to the house. And don’t let it get too big. You don’t want to burn the whole place down, do you? And always have some water nearby, just in case. And some dirt, you can throw dirt on it if it get out of hand.
I remember one time, old man Johnson, he built a fire, and it got away from him. Burned down his whole shed. He lost all his tools. Poor fella. He was real sad. That was a shame. So, you gotta be careful with your fire brick pit.
If you’re thinkin’ about buildin’ a fire brick pit, I say go for it. It ain’t that hard. Just get yourself some fire bricks, and find a good spot. You can make a square one, or a round one. I like the round ones best. Round is like a circle. You know, a circle? Like a pie. I like a pie, too. Apple pie is my favorite.
- Don’t forget to clear the area.
- Make sure you got enough fire bricks.
- Stack ’em up careful.
- Don’t build it too close to anything that can catch fire.
A good fire brick pit will last you a long time. You can enjoy it for years. So, don’t wait. Go get some bricks. Get the fire bricks, not the normal ones. The normal one will be broken. That is not good. You need the fire bricks. Then you build a fire, and enjoy.
And don’t forget to invite me over! I’ll bring the coffee. And the marshmallows. You can roast the marshmallows on the fire. Kids love that. I love that, too. Marshmallows are yummy.
