And speakin’ of crackin’ and flakin’, you gotta be careful with that kiln wash stuff you put on the shelves. If it shrinks too much, it can cause problems. Gotta get the right stuff, the stuff that don’t shrink much, or your shelves might still crack on ya, even these good silicon carbide ones. You know, gotta design the kiln wash for minimal shrinkage, the less shrinkage the better.

There are ram pressed silicon carbide shelves, they are very conventional and good, many potters are firing to cones 9-12 in natural gas and propane by using them. That’s about all I know ‘bout these shelves. They’re good, they work, and that’s all there is to it.
