Alright, let’s talk about them bricks, you know, the things they use to build houses and stuff. I ain’t no fancy builder or nothing, but I’ve seen enough houses go up to know a thing or two about them.
So, what’s the big deal about brick sizes, you ask? Well, it matters, you see. If them bricks ain’t the right size, your wall gonna look wonky, and nobody wants a wonky wall, right?
Now, from what I hear, they got all sorts of different sizes for them bricks, dependin’ on where you are and what you’re buildin’. Over in India, they got them bricks that are, let me see if I remember right, somethin’ like 7 and a half inches wide, and about 3 and a half inches high and deep. Yeah, that’s about right. They make ’em from clay, dig it up from the ground and then bake ’em in a big ol’ oven, a kiln they call it. Hot as heck in there, I bet.
But then you go to other places, like, say, well I don’t really know other places, but I heard they got different sizes. The most common one, the one they use for the outside walls, is somethin’ like 76mm high, that’s like, uh… a little bit taller than three inches I think, and 230mm long, that’s like…longer than my hand, and 110mm wide. They got other sizes too, bigger ones and maybe smaller ones, I don’t really know. It all depends on what they’re building, I guess.
- Common brick size (India): 190mm x 90mm x 90mm (that’s about 7.5″ x 3.5″ x 3.5″ in old money)
- Common brick size (for face brick, whatever that means): 76mm x 230mm x 110mm (a little taller and a good bit longer)
Why all the different sizes, you might wonder? Well, it’s got to do with all sorts of things. Where they get the stuff to make the bricks, what kind of weather they got, and how they build things in that place. It ain’t just one size fits all, you see.
Think of it like shoes. You got big feet, you need big shoes. You got little feet, you need little shoes. Same with bricks. Big building, maybe you need bigger bricks. Little wall, maybe you need smaller ones. Makes sense, right?
I heard in America they even got some kinda rules about brick sizes, some fancy letters and numbers, somethin’ called A-S-T-M. Sounds complicated to me. They probably got rules for everything over there. But the important thing is, them bricks gotta be strong and they gotta fit together right. Otherwise, your house gonna fall down, and nobody wants that.
Now, I ain’t no expert on all them numbers and measurements, but I know a good brick when I see one. It’s gotta be solid, not all crumbly and cracked. And it’s gotta be the right size for the job. You don’t want no gaps in your wall, that’s for sure. Gaps let the wind and the rain in, and that ain’t good.
So, if you’re plannin’ on buildin’ somethin’, make sure you get the right size bricks. Ask somebody who knows, don’t just guess. And make sure them bricks are good and strong. A good house starts with good bricks, that’s what I always say.

One more thing, I almost forgot. Sometimes they use them double bricks, bigger ones. I don’t know much about them, but they’re bigger. Makes the work go faster I guess. That’s all. Just wanted to throw that in there.
